Curiosity Letters was founded by husband and wife team, James and Louise, to spread the joy of learning to children of all ages through their letterboxes.
We all remember the excitement of receiving ‘real’ post as children but why limit it to just birthdays and Christmas?! With Curiosity Letters, your child(ren) can experience the joy of receiving their own post each month with you safe in the knowledge that it has been written by experts and is entirely age-appropriate.
Our aim at Curiosity Letters is to foster a love and fascination with curiosity and learning without over-relying on screens or technology. Modern technology is a huge blessing but as parents of twin neurodiverse 7 year old boys, we know only too well how hard it can be to minimise screen time or at least ensure that it is valuable to their personal and educational development.
Curiosity Letters was born out of our desire to engage our children in their learning and develop their curiosity in the world around them. With a range of neurodiversities, mainstream education was challenging for our children and at times simply uninspiring with its reliance on work-sheets, rote learning and sitting still. Yet when we took the decision to withdraw our children from mainstream education and home-educate them, we were both overwhelmed at just how much there is out there on the internet and simultaneously frustrated with how dry and ‘work-sheet heavy’ much of it is. It has the best of intentions but for our own children it failed to inspire so we created something more suitable!
As two former teachers with nearly 30 years’ of experience across both the Primary and Secondary sectors at every level from dyslexia-specialist classroom teacher to Senior Leadership Team, we know how to inspire children in their learning and how to translate the curriculum into exciting, meaningful and engaging activities. Our lessons were consistently graded as 'Outstanding' (OFSTED) and 'Excellent' (ISI) by numerous inspectors across multiple inspections. In addition, with Louise’s Masters-level qualification in teaching and assessing dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD, and our own experience of home-educating neurodiverse children, we have years’ of experience to draw on in making learning accessible to children of all abilities.
Hopefully you've noticed that all the animals in The Curiosity Crew are beautifully hand-drawn!
We have teamed up with our close friend and fellow teacher Ruth who has been drawing her own illustrations since childhood. Her mini-masterpieces help capture the personalities and interest of each member of The Curiosity Crew, bringing to life this group of curious investigators from Discovery Island.
When you order from Curiosity Letters, we promise that each of our letters:
will inspire curiosity and help foster a love of learning
is written to support neurodiversity: we use dyslexia-friendly fonts and design our letters to limit visual stress with neutral backgrounds and no overlayed text.
is informed by (but not limited to!) the relevant age-appropriate National Curriculum content for that subject area
comes with a variety of fun, engaging and accessible opportunities to promote practical, active and safe learning within each subject area
provides opportunities to reflect upon and record the learning progress your child has made (this is very important to satisfy the requirements of your Local Authority if you are home-educators)
will cover new content each month and not repeat itself
will never be written using AI: we research and write every single letter ourselves
will look like nothing they have ever seen before in a classroom!
When a Curiosity Letter is delivered to our own children, they cannot wait to open it and devour the contents. We find it is they who are begging us to complete the activities and experiments rather than us trying to force them to do their learning: this is what we think learning should look like when it is inspirational and child-led.
Whether you are home-educators or seeking to add extra-curricular enrichment, our hope is that your children too will find their own curiosity likewise ignited by Curiosity Letters!
